This is one of the more common reasons for infertility affecting up to 5-10% of childbearing women. PCOS is caused by a hormonal imbalance that disrupts the ovulation, where it occurs less frequent than normal or prolonged menstrual period, affecting fertility.
They develop multiple (poly) small collection of fluids (cysts) in the ovary which causes failure for the egg to ovulate and be released normally. Women usually suffer from irregular cycles, weight gain, acne and excessive hair growth, as a result of this syndrome.
PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Symptoms
PCOS symptoms can occur during puberty or later in life and usually on the onset of sudden or significant weight change. The symptoms of PCOS seems to be more drastic as the women gets more obese.
You need to have at least 2 of these signs to be diagnosed with PCOS:
Irregular and unpredictable period which is usually less than 9 periods in one year
Enlarged ovaries that are polycystic (containing multiple cysts)
High level of male hormones known as androgen that can cause excessive hair growth or facial hair, acne and baldness etc.
How Does Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Affect Your Fertility
Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) typically have a high infertility rate. With an imbalanced hormones, the monthly ovulation is affected. Sometimes causing a delay and sometimes causing a complete anovulation.
If the eggs don’t mature and be released, there is no egg for the sperm to fertilise. If the eggs are released at an unpredictable time, it may be difficult to time the sexual intercourse for fertilisation. Either ways, pregnancy is unlikely to happen.
WHAT DOES OUR CLIENTS WITH PCOS SAY?
PCOS is a one of the most common cases for women who sign up with our program and the first feedback we get is more frequent menstrual cycle.
Many who have missed their periods for several months, manage to get their menses, some even within a month, and reported that their cycles are getting more and more regular. We also have had successful pregnancy with PCOS clients.
As for IVF clients, they reported an increase in the number of eggs, increase in size of egg or increase in egg quality during their egg retrieval, resulting in higher quality of embryo.
